Cellular Nations

Cellular Nations visualizes global economic and military dynamics as a living system of interacting, data-driven nation-ellipses.
Cellular Nations maps global economic data onto a dynamic visual system representing 232 world nations. Each nation is depicted as an animated ellipse, with size and motion determined by GDP, GDP growth rate, and inflation rate.
The ellipses drift across a zero-sum canvas, programmed to avoid overlap and change direction upon collision—reflecting the fluid, interdependent nature of global economics.
A distinctive feature is the incorporation of military power, represented as gravitational force or mass. Nations with greater military strength move more slowly and exert repelling force on smaller, faster-moving ones. This creates a visual simulation of the interplay between economic performance and military influence in shaping the motion and relations of nations on the global stage.
